Architectural Drafting & Space Planning

with Architect, Jairo Leon

The Artizen Salon was one of the smaller projects that we designed at Jairo’s office, but the salon required all custom fixtures, cabinets, and display cases.  I helped develop these pieces and I communicated our designs to a local millworker for construction. â€‹

I was fully responsible for space planning and all construction documentation.  At the conclusion of the project, I assisted our lead interior design coordinator by producing our material specification sheets and a list of expectations of the contractors involved on the project.

The design was inspired by our client’s vision and refined based on their feedback. It turned out beautifully, and the business has been a huge success.

Furniture Plan

Material finishes are shown for visual aid.  The plan is divided into sections.  The reception and waiting areas are at the entrance.  The new custom display cabinets showcase products sold by the salon.  The styling area is an open plan with eight chairs. All built-in fixtures are custom designed for the client per their specific needs. The shampooing area is a private section paired with the coloring bar and processing room.  Material selections were kept minimal in order to achieve a modern look on a budget.  I custom designed the fixtures that outfit the entire salon.

Minor differences can be seen between the final furniture plan and the finished space. This is because clients may need changes at the last minute. Fixture dimensions were altered so that all eight chairs could fit on the side walls. Doing this opened up the center of the room for a seating area. The waiting area was reduced in size, but the space is utilized more efficiently as a result.

SITE PLAN

The Salon is located in a
small shopping center.

Commercial buildings must abide by building codes and regulations. ADA Regulation and building code research is important in the construction of a new building.

All cabinetry is custom designed for the building, therefore I provided detail drawings and coordinated with the Millworker to ensure quality.  In conclusion of the project, I submitted our plans to the Fire Marshall to be approved before bringing the construction document set to a printing service.
