Architectural Drafting and Space Planning
with Architect, Jairo Leon

The Jeansonne House is one of the residential projects that Jairo asked me to make major design decisions on. The home was to be a gift for Mr. Jeansonne’s Son. I came up with several upper level layouts. After consults with the family, we refined my layouts for the final plan.

I designed the guest house, master suite and entire upper level floor plan. During revisions of the floor plan aimed at cutting square footage, I chose to connect the fitness room, his and her closets, and master bath with a central dressing area. This provided Ms. Jeansonne with the dressing area that she had wanted while trimming square footage from the final plan. The total area under the roof is over 9,000 sqft.

In later stages of the design process, you can see that we eliminated the front office and flipped the floor plan on the vertical axis (see exterior elevation). A loggia replaced the enclosed walkway at the front of the house.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The floor plan is shown mirrored from the site plan below. Prior to completion of the design phase, we decided to flip the house plans along a vertical axis.

Note that the final kitchen and bathrooms are mirrored to the original plan shown to the left.
The Jeansonne House occupies the upper lot shown in the site plan. It would be the house on the right in the aerial view.

Construction of the Jeansonne House
The images below demonstrate how construction documents translate to the physical structure. The framing, electrical, and plumbing plans let contractors know where to place important fixtures and how to construct them.
Construction documents help us to communicate our designs with the contractor, millworker, and landscape architect. Building, fire, plumbing, and electrical code, along with government regulations are often dictated in the plans. Strict guidelines for the builder are included with the construction documents. Paint colors and material specifications ensure that the finished product will match the desired outcome.
